Students attending public, private, and religious schools can all benefit. But Illinois must opt in for our families to access these funds. The federal tax credit becomes available January 1, 2027, whether or not Illinois participates. Don't let Illinois children be left behind.

Dear Governor Pritzker,
As an Illinois resident, I respectfully urge you to opt Illinois into the new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program.
This program can bring substantial new educational resources totaling billions of dollars to Illinois children through voluntary, privately donated funds without requiring a state appropriation or reducing funding for Illinois public schools. Students attending public, private, and religious schools can benefit from assistance with eligible educational needs.
You have stated in the past that you do not oppose tax credit scholarship programs from a policy, political, or ideological perspective; your only wanted to see the financial burden of lost tax revenue shared with the federal government. Under this program, the entire burden is carried by the federal government. 
Recent polling indicates that nearly 80% of Illinoisans not only support opting in, but that the majority of them plan to donate, with most directing their contributions towards public education. Donors can contribute and claim the tax credit regardless of whether their state is participating. Whether or not Illinois children who are attending public, private, or charter schools can access billions of dollars in education funding generated by these donors is exclusively up to you.    
The federal tax credit will be available beginning in January 1, 2027 whether or not Illinois participates. Illinois families should not be left behind while contributions flow to organizations serving children in other states.
Please put Illinois students first by opting into the program and working with families and educational organizations to implement it broadly, fairly, and responsibly.
